An International Study of Research Misconduct Policies

This study compares national research misconduct policies across the world’s leading research-performing countries and finds substantial variation in how misconduct is defined and regulated. While all countries with formal policies include fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism as core forms of misconduct, many differ in whether they address issues such as authorship disputes, publication practices, conflicts of interest, and peer-review ethics. The authors argue that greater international harmonization of misconduct policies is needed to support research integrity and facilitate collaboration across borders.

Understanding the patterns and magnitude of life science publication Retractions in the last four decades

This study analyzes nearly five decades of life-science publication retractions using data from the Retraction Watch database to identify trends across time, countries, and causes of retraction. The authors find that retractions have increased substantially since the late 1970s, driven by a combination of research misconduct, errors, and evolving publication practices. The paper argues that understanding these patterns is essential for strengthening research integrity policies and developing more effective mechanisms to prevent and address unreliable scientific research.

Namdeo, S.K. and Zhang, J.Y., 2024. Rethinking science diplomacy and global biosecurity: challenges, emerging practices and the way forward. International Affairs, 100(6), pp.2623-2635.

Dr. Suryesh Kumar Namdeo and Dr. Joy Y. Zhang argue that emerging forms of “science at large” are reshaping global biosecurity by enabling biotechnology innovation beyond traditional institutions and regulatory frameworks. The paper highlights the growing role of science diplomacy, particularly Track II engagement and Global South participation, in building more inclusive and adaptive approaches to biosecurity governance.

Namdeo, S.K. and Chandan, G.N., 2025. Scientometric Analysis of Research on Deliberate Biosecurity Threats Reveals North-Transatlantic Dominance. Journal of Biosafety and Biosecurity.

Analyzing two decades of biosecurity scholarship, Dr. Suryesh Kumar Namdeo and Dr. Chandan GN show how research on deliberate biological threats is overwhelmingly concentrated in North-Transatlantic countries. The paper maps publication trends, collaboration networks, and shifting priorities toward synthetic biology and dual-use risks, while highlighting the need for more inclusive global biosecurity research and participation across the Global South.
